I’M CHANGING WHAT’S POSSIBLE BY…

Being a supportive leader.

STARTING HIS CAREER
I’ve been with Synchrony for 12 years! I started as a Customer Service Representative, worked my way up the ladder, and now I lead a team and projects. I never would’ve thought I’d be anywhere close to where I am today.

As a company, we change lives. We help people every day provide for their homes. Car issues or a washer or dryer goes down, we’ve got a card to help pay that off within 6-12 months. We’re there to help and it’s amazing. You don’t think of a credit card that can help as much as we possibly do. That’s where we talk about family. We’re a family with not only our people but our customers as well.

BEING A PART OF THE VETERANS+ NETWORK
If you’re leading a team in war and battle, leading people to answer a phone call should be pretty simple! We do a great job as a company of bringing in active military and vets and assigning them what we call a battle buddy. These battle buddies are partners who’ve been with the company for longer who work alongside you, show you the ropes, help nurture you through your career here, and help support and build people into what they want to become, which is a potential leader for the future.

HIS PROUDEST MOMENTS
My proudest moment was having all six members of my dedicated specialist team get promoted from an hourly call center employee to a salaried employee. For me to support these individuals to succeed together, move upwards in the company, and still be here making an impact is awesome to see! You look around in the business and you see different people making a career and working hard to get there. How we drive our talent to the places they’ve never gone before and how we as leaders help promote them—it’s a unique experience working here. It feels great to be a part of that!

Another one of my proudest moments was receiving the Veterans+ Network Chairman Award a few years ago. One of the many great things about our Diversity Networks is adding the +. The point of having these networks is to open it up and bring everyone in to be inclusive, be heard, contribute, and provide value. You can’t be inclusive if you don’t invite everyone to a spot at the table. That makes Synchrony better because everybody’s involved, everybody’s got a voice. We’re here to change what’s possible. And if we’re not listening to our teams and to our people, then we can’t make those changes.

GROWING PERSONALLY & PROFESSIONALLY
The way our culture is and the way our senior management listens and promotes within, we all have a shot at growing here. We have all these different experiences and programs that are built to help find out what our people are all about. We celebrate our people and that’s something huge within a company, especially one this size. The possibilities are limitless. Put in the work, raise your hand, and make yourself known.

WHAT SETS SYNCHRONY APART FROM OTHER COMPANIES
For me, it’s the camaraderie. You look at all the different people who make up Synchrony, and it’s amazing that everybody treats everyone with respect. People listen to one another, they look you in the eye, and your thoughts and ideas are validated. Everybody is just so real and so easy to talk to. It’s so different from other companies I’ve worked for.
