The Future of Work at Synchrony

New Ways of Working

Last year brought extraordinary changes to the way we work, and our business quickly transformed in many ways– from creating home offices across the globe, to supporting our partners and helping customers navigate disruptions. While we were met with challenges, at Synchrony we saw the power in people, as many across the organization emerged to accelerate our top priority– taking care of our people.

Moving to Working from Home

In response to the severity of the pandemic and for the safety of our employees, we relocated nearly all employees from our global offices to work from home within ten days. Once home, we ensured everyone was equipped with the right technology to be successful.

Supporting Our Employees

Soon after we all settled in to working from home, we began to notice how employees were met with new, unique challenges. To help manage the balance, we also implemented additional benefits to support them, such as no cost virtual medical visits and expanded backup childcare program to support family needs. Additionally, we conducted weekly virtual townhalls so everyone could get updates on the company and ask questions to leadership, which provided important information and connection to employees while also helping shape our decisions moving forward.

Engaging Differently

With new ways of working came new ways to engage. We are adamant about not just keeping our great culture, but expanding it. Having engaged employees is a cornerstone of our culture at Synchrony, so ensuring our employees are able thrive virtually is important. We embraced new ways of working and adapted agile methodology, scaling back the need for formal presentations and embracing the agility of quick stand-up meetings has allowed us to move at the pace our environment requires. We further embraced technology and video conferences, quickly pivoted priorities where necessary and redefined what colleague engagement looks like in order to push the business forward in many innovative ways in the form of new product launches, partnerships, and civic engagement.

The Lasting Results

Recognizing the success in transforming the way we work, hearing from a majority of our employees that ongoing working from home is preferred and the impact of our adaptability, we re-imagined what the future would look like. We evaluated our physical spaces and are planning on what they could like in the future. We’ll embrace more collaborative physical spaces that allow us to come together, brainstorm and innovate while allowing our virtual space and engagement to remain.

We have always embraced work-life balance, but with our new way of working, we have flexibility when needed. . Using the extra time that may have been previously spent on commuting, we’re able to connect with loved ones or practice self-care; which has pushed us forward as individuals and as a company. We’re focused on the future, enhancing our culture, while embracing the new ways of work.. We want all of our employees to connect with work in ways that are comfortable so everyone can bring their best self to work each day.
