I’M CHANGING WHAT’S POSSIBLE BY…

Getting involved and continuing to be flexible.

SHACOYA DUNBAR

Senior Customer Service Representative

CHARLOTTE, NC

My name is Shacoya Dunbar and I’m a Senior Customer Service Representative. Synchrony has made me feel warm and welcome every single day.

I’m an African American woman, Navy veteran, and a part of the LGBT community. Being a part of a company with so many opportunities to be represented and supported, I’ve never seen anything like it. With so many Diversity Networks to be a part of, people can express themselves, be engaged and get involved.

When I found out about the LGBT+ Network my first day on the job, I couldn’t believe it. I was so excited because that’s who I am! That’s my life and I didn’t have to hide it. I could talk about my partner (and my cat!) who I love so much! Finally, I felt comfortable to be my authentic self at work, to talk about the things my girlfriend and I like to do for fun outside of work, and to be a part of a community of people like me. Working here feels like family – it’s really similar to how I felt serving in the military. I love that! I can come to work being myself and I don’t have to be someone I’m not.

I’m changing what’s possible by getting involved and continuing to be flexible. I’m not sure where I want to take my career but if I keep an open mind, I feel I can really flourish! We’re growing as a company, and senior management is incredibly supportive and accessible – I’m excited for my growth and opportunities at Synchrony.
